Submit Music

Want your music played on Radio Waterloo? Here are a few tips to help with that.

Physical Releases:

Wall-mounted racks of CD cases and sleeves
CKMS New Music Library
Send your Vinyl or CD to:

283 Duke St W, Unit 114b
Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
N2H 3X7

For a better response:

  • Check our show descriptions and label it to the attention of a show playing similar music. eg. Attn: Mano A Mano
  • If your music is local and/or Canadian let us know! We abide by the CRTC and play at least the minimum Canadian Content. We love to promote local talent.
  • A short description of your genre, style and influences also helps.
  • Have your CD in a standard case instead of a slim or paper jacket so that it can easily be seen on our shelves.

Digital Releases:

You can send an email to office@radiowaterloo.ca with links to your downloadable digital release (or with an attachment) and it will be made available for our hosts to review.

Alternatively, please check our show descriptions or the schedule and find a show that plays a similar genre, then leave a comment to contact the show hosts with your material.

We prefer MP3 files at 192 kbps CBR (FM broadcast fidelity is equal to about 128 kbps). Please make sure the metadata on digital files include the title, performer, composer, year, album and track number if applicable, optionally copyright info such as ISRC number, and, important to us, genre. Cover art can be embedded in the file or submitted separately.

Canadian Content

Are you Canadian? Be sure to indicate if the music qualifies as Canadian Content (at least two of MAPL: Music composed by a Canadian, Artist (performer) is Canadian, Performance was in Canada, or Lyrics written by a Canadian) by prominently putting “CanCon” or “MAPL” in the subject line or message body; Canadian Content gets put into our regular rotation. And if you’re from Waterloo Region we’ll add it to our KWCon rotation too.

EPK

And don’t forget to include some biographical info with your music submission – the band members’ names, what they play, where they’re from, how you / the band got started, &c. This is your Electronic Press Kit (EPK), which should list upcoming performances, links to your internet presence (Twitter, Facebook, SoundCloud, Bandcamp…), and contact information like phone number and e-mail address so we can invite you for an interview.
