The Tune Up #2 – June 12th, 2026

Welcome to the show! This week I’m playing more of my recent favourite jazz records. This mix is saxophone-heavy again. In the second half I shift to some spiritual jazz from Ottawa by the Antlantis Jazz Ensemble, some jazz-folk from the Tara Clerkin Trio, R&B/jazz by River Tiber. To end the mix I played Private Room by RAD, which I discovered as the funky sample behind MIKE’s You’re the Only One Watching.

Tracks Played:

  • Wayne Shorter – Pay as You Go
  • Jackie McLean – Eco
  • Hank Mobley, Sonny Clark – Deep In A Dream
  • Jimmy Smith – Blues 3+1
  • Sun Ra – Blues at Midnight
  • Chet Baker, Art Pepper – Tynan Time
  • Atlantis Jazz Ensemble – Oneness
  • Archie Alleyne, Doug Richardson (Kollage) – Saturday Morning
  • Tara Clerkin Trio – There Was A Nice Sunset
  • RAD – Private Room

The Tune Up airs on CKMS-FM every Friday from 6-7pm.

The Tune Up #1 – June 5th, 2026

Welcome to the first show! I’m playing some of my favourite jazz records as of late. This mix features a lot of Hard Bop, raw sounds and fast tempos. Also playing two of my favourites from Sonny Rollins to celebrate his wonderful music.

Stick around for the last few tracks to hear some amazing modern stuff from Toronto: Archie Alleyne and Doug Richardson, BADBADNOTGOOD. Then, a recent Robert Glasper track from 2024 that flows directly from the timeless 60s-era sounds. Hope you enjoy.

Tracks Played:

  • Bobby Hutcherson – 8/4 Beat (1968)
  • Mankunku Quartet – Bessie’s Blues (1968)
  • Oscar Peterson Trio – Days of Wine and Roses (1964)
  • Sonny Rollins – Moving Out (RVG Remastered 2009) (1954)
  • Sonny Rollins – Striver’s Row (Live At The Village Vanguard/1957) (1958)
  • Yusef Lateef – Blue Rocky (1960)
  • Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans – Toy (1961)
  • Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley – Save Your Love For Me (1960)
  • Archie Alleyne, Doug Richardson – Decisions (Archie Alleyne & Doug Richardson) (2001)
  • BADBADNOTGOOD – Fall In Love (2011)
  • Robert Glasper – Say Less (2024)
