Belatedly posting my spooky Halloween show; amidst your typical graveyard smashes I’ve got music that reflects the decaying world on both a small and large scale. Hip hop, rock, electronica, classical, jazz, and soundtracks to film and games. Featured image from Dario Argento’s 1985 film Phenomena, which I don’t play music from but do talk about a bit (amidst several other horror movies). Stick around to the end of the show to truly settle into the dark of the night.

Happy Halloween Eve! I tried to find a variety of themed jazz music for the occasion. It’s mostly songs with something in the title, or stuff I associate with spookiness. For example, the eerie outro to Toronto band Badbadnotgood’s “IV”, and the haunting “I Don’t Know” by Badbadnotgood feat. Samuel T. Herring. The Tune Up plays an evolving mix of jazz which blends between classic, experimental and raw sounds. Thanks for listening!
Tracks played:
Philly Joe Jones Sextet – Blues for Dracula
Wayne Shorter – Speak No Evil
Jimmy Smith – Theme From “Bewitched”
Jackie McLean – Demon’s Dance
Lee Morgan – Candy
Johnny Mercer – That Old Black Magic
Badbadnotgood – IV
Badbadnotgood, Samuel T. Herring – I Don’t Know
Yesterday’s New Quintet – Keeper Of My Soul
Eugene McDaniels – Freedom Death Dance
Belita Woods – Magic Corner
The Tune Up airs here on CKMS 102.7 Radio Waterloo every Friday from 6-7pm.
What’s up, y’all? Happy Devil’s Night, Happy Halloween! Ya boy is not able to get into the spirit at all, but I still put together a special mix for y’all to get ready to egg houses to, trick or treat to, etc. (but do not dare trunk or treat to the mix, I’ll haunt your dreams like Freddy).

Rights Back At You is the Amnesty International Canada podcast that examines anti-Black racism, policing, and surveillance. They delve into stories of resistance and meet the people making change unstoppable. From facial recognition and the right to protest to the war on drugs and defunding the police, this series connects the dots and passes the mic to people building a better future now. Episode XXXV of Reader’s Delight features Andre Narbonne, Matt Joudrey, and Christopher Butt, as well as What’s In A Name with Meghan from River Bookshop in Amherstburg, Ontario,
Andre Narbonne joins me to talk about his most recent work, the postmodernist historical fiction novel, Those Are Pearls (2026, Palimpsest Press), the importance of love in its many forms as a theme, the use of multiple perspectives in the novel, and then reads an excerpt from the book.

Matt Joudrey and I talk about his work, including his new book Marmalade Parade (2026, Guernica Editions), and we discuss experimental writing, particularly in dialogue, as well as memory as our most important but most unreliable faculty, then Matt shares an excerpt from the novel.

Born Again Horse Mom @bornagainhorsemom: Alix Lynch & her horse Sable have an amazing story to tell. Thank you algorithm for leading my ways to them! Alix has discovered that horses are psychic, but the story begins with Alix volunteering at a horse rescue and becoming an advocate for Sable. Alix’ website: “Growth Perspective Coaching & Consulting” relays a new perspective that help us understand Alix’ unique way of approach. Literally amazing interview. Refreshing way of respecting these sentient beings. Thank you Alix and Sable!
