- Smart Alec : I log on.......then select "new" "post"

- Smart Alec : I can't figure out the Posting stuff.....sigh
- Bob Jonkman : 81 82 83 84 playlist: https://radiowaterloo.ca/81-82-83-84-s03e06/
- Requiem : I'll try....sometimes techno works for me, other times gremlins win!
- Bob Jonkman : Thanx for posting audio files on the website, BTW. Could you also add a bit of explanatory text?
- Requiem : THE JAM on LEE GREGORY'S 81 82 83 84!! Always a cool visit to that era!
- Requiem : Thanks Bob. The Laurel Canyon show is on libretime......under r4r
- Bob Jonkman : Another good show!
- Requiem : Many thanks for the listen and discussion Bob and Natasha. Made me less lazy!!
- Requiem : yes thats a paradox! Lazy energy!
- Bob Jonkman : So many of these "lazy" songs have so much energy!
- Requiem : Show is called "LAUREL CANYON" and explains why and how the CIA invented the Hippies.....
- Bob Jonkman : Ooh, I missed the CIA show. Online somewhere?
- Requiem : Oh the CIA invented Hippies with the primary goal of discrediting the anti-war movement. In their lab atop Laurel Canyon.
- Natasha : I recall your show on hippies and CIA. I’m not convinced though
- Requiem : Yes you would look quite groovy in a kerchief Bob!
- Natasha : I recall your show on that. I’m not convinced however. What do you hi k
- Bob Jonkman : I could manage a kerchief!
- Requiem : Yes Natasha. We need the Hippies again.......even if they were invented by the CIA!
- Requiem : Kerchiefs for guys....mood rings....open shirts with medallions!
- Natasha : Can’t wait for the return of 60s dialect too!
- Bob Jonkman : TieDye and fringes!
- Requiem : 70's was kinda Uniform for youth. Levi Jeans and T-Shirts with Jean Jackets......'earth shoes."
- Natasha : Groovy
- Bob Jonkman : (although I was only a youngster in the 1960s, and the 1970s certainly had a different style)
- Requiem : Nehru Jackets and Love beads Bay-Bee!
- Bob Jonkman : Hm. Stuff I could have worn elegantly in the 1960s would be downright scary on me today.
- Requiem : Natasha's a Mary Quant Gal! Groovy!!
- Natasha : Can’t wait for 60s fashion and music to make a comeback
- Requiem : The Stones should be taught in all MBA courses world-wide! Brilliant Marketing. But the music capitalists know what will sell....
- Bob Jonkman : There's a bit of 1980s SynthPop nostalgia now on aNONradio
- Requiem : When I was a teen in the 70's 50's rock n roll was a rage too.....
- Bob Jonkman : There was a big resurgence of nostalgic music in the 1980s, bringing back the 1950s Rock'n'Roll
- Natasha : Speaking of marketing, Stones tix in Cleveland are going for +$1k. Few seats left.
- Requiem : When youth get exposed to "Dad Rock" stuff, it blows them away!
- Requiem : But yet......what is marketted so much and so big in 2023? Beatles and Stones from 60 years ago. Ironic....
- Bob Jonkman : "Pop" is relative. What parents consider Pop isn't necessarily what their kids do
- Natasha : ok, maybe not for the old. Perhaps because it’s boring?
- Requiem : Its all part of the wonderful Tapestry of 20th century Popular music. Frankly, I love it all!!
- Natasha : There are new genres every twenty years or so. With “pop” being a constant.
- Bob Jonkman : Big bands, Rock'n'Roll, Punk, New Wave and SynthPop, Hip Hop. Maybe there's something there....
- Bob Jonkman : If music ppularity is due to the rejection of Old People's Music, then there should be new genres every 20 years or so
- Requiem : Hi Natasha! Well, the "old" people were not really that old in 1955.....and "Pop" music was still much bigger than Rock and Roll in that time. ie. Frank and Dean and Doris ruled the charts in those years......
- Requiem : Actually the rationing was worse in the immediate post-war. During the war, Bands got enough Gas as it added to civilian morale.....
- Bob Jonkman : In fact, I'd think the 40s was the peak of big bands
- Natasha : The demise of big bands may be because the genre was for old people. My two cents
- Bob Jonkman : I'd have thought gas rationing would have been worse during the war, but it there were still lots of big bands then.
- Requiem : Big Bands couldn't get enough gasoline to transport all the members. Small "combos" could fit in a station wagon i.e. Bill Haley....Elvis...Buddy Holly....et al.
- Requiem : He played acoustic rhythm on the original Sun Records Recordings with Scotty and Bill.
- Bob Jonkman : There was also a musician's strike in the late 1940s that let (non-union) musicians flourish.
- Bob Jonkman : Old Elvis may not have playef much guitar, but I've seen few pictures of young Elvis without a guitar
- Requiem : It was the gas shortages caused by World War Two and the Draft that brought the demise of the Big Bands.....
- Requiem : Elvis rarely played guitar
- Bob Jonkman : If anything, the duration of big bands held back rock'n'roll
- Requiem : All a timeline.....all integral.
- Bob Jonkman : It was more the demise of the big bands (with their Bings &c) that brought R&R to the mainstream
- Bob Jonkman : I dunno. The one constant amongst all the sub-genres of rock is that the singers are the musicians. The Bings, Dinos, & Franks don't fit that mold.
- Requiem : Caruso....Rudy Vallee.....Bing...Frank..Dean.......all the Proto-Rockers. No Rock without their influence....
- Requiem : The Lazy Show tonight on Requiem for Rock!
- Requiem : An old rerun....too indolent to write a new show this week! Hi Bob!
- Bob Jonkman : Or "proto-rock star"?
- Bob Jonkman : Bing Crosby, "proto-rock-star"?
- Bob Jonkman : This is the show for me!

- Bob Jonkman : easy peasy! Log into the Radio Waterloo website (login button at the upper right), then from the top menu bar select " + New, Post", type a small blurb about the show, then drag'n'drop your audio file just under the text you've typed.
- Requiem : I admit I don't know how to do that Bob. sheesh....
- Bob Jonkman : Spealing of podcasts (as you were doing in the show just now), have you thought of publishing your podcasts on the Radio Waterloo website? Some of us can't use Spotify (not accessible to podcatchers, and all locked up behind a paywall)

- Bob Jonkman : There are some hidden comments on the "About" page template that make the podcasts and previous episodes appear. Let me know if you want more info

- Bob Jonkman : Mr. Smart has been doing Requiem For Rock as pre-recorded shows for a while. I think he prefers that, since he can turn them into podcasts quite easily
- Golden Record : And remember when and if there is a live programmer at 10 PM. then you will need to have the desk clean for them before the end of your hour.

- Golden Record : I usually have a good feed from Winsor Zoom
- Bob Jonkman : Must have a good connection. My Zoom feed sounds terrible. It was an enjoyable half hour. Must get here earlier next time.
- ProfJohnMaple : It is sourced from the Zoom meeting audio feed from our Wednesday evening swing and blues music online gathering...
- Bob Jonkman : Golden Record, where do you pull the Swing feed from?
- Bob Jonkman : It's not you, it's me.
- Bob Jonkman : Crashed again.

- ProfJohnMaple : Hope you could find the Zoom information in this week's Facebook event and join us, Bob!

- Bob Jonkman : Charlie, come join me online at https://radiowaterloo.ca/progcom
- Charlie : In other words, show them how to properly use "cue"
- Charlie : Technical question: last week on the show, we were pressing the Cue button on the mic, but for whatever reason, it was still coming through on the airway. Does the cue work for mics or only for airtime and computer?
