CKMS Community Connections for 7 March 2022: Music by Women

Show Notes

This is the week of the (B&W line drawing of three women, with pink flowers in the front centre woman's hair)U.N.’s International Women’s Day, and so we’re playing music by women in Waterloo Region and across Canada. New music and old music. Music that’s sad, music that’s happy; ballads and love songs; folk, country, rock, and pop.

If there are no breaking local news stories, this show will be repeated from 3pm-4pm on Friday, 11 March 2022.

CKMS Community Connections for 31 December 2021: KWCon Music!

This week I’m playing KWCon music, that is, music by local musicians from Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Wellesley, Wilmot, and Woolwich (and maybe some who have friends and relations in the area)… This is all new music from 2021, or newly discovered in 2021. Sadly, I’ve only got an hour, which covers barely half of the KWCon musicians I discovered this year. So that means there’s not enough time to provide bios or background information.

I hope this Covid is done soon. I want to bring all these musicians into the studio for interviews and maybe a Live, On-Air, In-Studio performance.

And for any musicians in Waterloo Region I’ve missed, drop us a line at office@radiowaterloo.ca with an MP3 of your music or a link to a download site, and we’ll get your songs on the air. I’m about six months behind in replying to e-mail, so please be patient. Or even better, join Radio Waterloo as a member, Start Your Own Show, and put Waterloo Region’s music on the air!

–Bob.

Amanda Kind as The Witch, Moira King and Aaron Balzer as The Bakers!

Actors Harrison Smith and Jonathan Schiller joined me for a chat about KWMP’s Into the Woods – one of the most beloved Stephen Sondheim musicals. I saw the show at The Regsitry Theatre and it was great. Kudos to Amanda Kind as The Witch! I hope all of Sondheim’s music resonates in our cultural consciousnesses Ever After! – Tee Hee Coral FM.

Multi-talented actor / singer / arts innovator/ director Amanda Kind talks about http://www.wix.com/kwmpnews/rent coming to The Registry Theatre April 26 to May 5.
We also spoke about Amanda’s personal evolution from her acting and singing career, and becoming a musical instigator and mentor for KW Glee – to director! RENT marks Amanda’s directorial debut for Kitchener Waterloo Musical Productions.

RENT, set against the gritty Bohemian backdrop of New York’s East Village, chronicles a year in the life (1989-1990) of a group of friends. And in 2012, their challenges and triumphs continue to resonate with all audiences.
RENT’s about struggling as an artist, struggling to make ends meet, struggling with sexual identity, struggling with vices, or as many do these days, struggling with unexpected and crippling illness. But RENT is also about friendship, faith, the power of love and kick ass rock and roll as these street smart survivors rise up against the chaos and challenges in 525,600 minutes of Life’s Great Mess.
