Notes: I can’t believe that this album came out 20 years ago! What a great album! Limblifter is a Canadian Classic. So to mark the 20 year anniversary the album was released for the first time on vinyl. The album includes an updated mastering process, which sometimes ruins an album in my opinion but for this album it sounds great AND the album also includes two extra unreleased tracks. Notes: I consider The Mars Volta one of my “Vinyl Bands”. Some bands I will just wait to listen until I get the vinyl. Some I have to have it so fast I will take anything. It is not a question of which bands I like more, I believe it has more to do with the type of music. Post Rock & Math Rock seem to be more “Vinyl Bands”. All others are CD, Digital and I’ve even started dabbling in tapes thanks to 3Nines Cassettes! Anyways, This album changed all that for me….Check out the podcast above!
Join us for a night of community care for migrant justice in support of a local family facing deportation from Waterloo to Guatemala. Because we all deserve safety. Because no one is illegal. Because families belong together.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
We’ll be screening “In the Shadows of Borders”, a short film that explores if Canada really is as welcoming to migrants as one may think. After the film, we will hear from Sandra Morales, mother of six, whose husband, Daniel Roblero, was deported over 3 months ago. Sandra and five of her children have also been threatened with deportation and are currently waiting for a response on their application for permanent residence on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds. They came to Canada fleeing violence and persecution in Guatemala and the US. Daniel, husband and father, was the main provider for the family and so we are raising funds for the family to support them during this very difficult time.
There will be snacks, an amazing silent auction, community resources and a room filled with lovely people who care.

Tickets are sliding scale $5 to $15. Pay what you can snacks. Silent auction with many amazing pieces and baskets, stay tuned for some of the items you can get! Please bring cash. We will also accept e-transfers for silent auction items.

Alan Quarry Founder Heart Beats Hate, a well-known entrepreneur, educator and philanthropist in Waterloo Region.
He grew Quarry Communications from a three-person boutique marketing firm to a 100+ company with offices in Canada and the United States. He has served an entrepreneur in residence at both Communitech and the Accelerator Centre , and has taught business and marketing at Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Waterloo and Conestoga College. Alan has dedicated much of his life to building a stronger, more vibrant Waterloo Region. In 2015 he organized the Stone Soup benefit concert as a way of bringing diverse members of the community together to raise awareness of and funds for Doctors Without Borders and raised money for local charities encouraging the community to raise over $50,000 for numerous important causes through these concerts.
For Alan, a tipping point was the Unite the Right rally, in Charlottesville, VA when he decided to stand up , speak out and push back. With that Heart Beats Hate was born.
While menstrual movement is happening internationally, the conversation does not include menopause which is part of the menstrual cycle.
People experiencing menopause are the fastest growing demographic in the workforce. This is another life event that is almost as disruptive and that isn’t much discussed. Talking openly about menopause, the change, the challenges, the remedies and more is Stacey Jacobs. Stacey has been a Sexual Health Educator, Writer and Speaker for almost two decades. She has personally educated over 10,000 people in her community, including children, youth and adults. Stacey is currently an instructor at the University of Waterloo in the Sexuality, Marriage and Family Studies program.
Tonight I will go back to the basics, back to what made me want to do this to begin with. No themes, just me showing some of my favourite music and explaining why I love it so much. This is part 1 of this series.

The CKMS community newsroom is looking for several freelance journalists to produce local content. The program is funded with a grant from the Community Radio Fund of Canada until March 31 2021.
The focus of the work is here in Waterloo Region and will investigate and help explain the intersections of homelessness and displacement, poverty and mental health, and the war on drugs and safer consumption initiatives.
Candidates do not have to commit for the entire term of the project, we will be accepting applications throughout the program’s timeline to ensure flexibility.
We’re looking for dynamic journalists who care about local journalism and local issues.
Duties and responsibilities:
Produce 20-30 minute edited audio pieces for broadcast with interview and analysis focusing on the intersections of homelessness and displacement, poverty and mental health, and the war on drugs and safer consumption initiatives.
Set up and undertake interviews for assigned or approved pieces.
Pitching ideas for pieces.
Use audio editing software to produce the piece.
Write up descriptions of the produced pieces for use on the CKMS website.
Upload the completed work to the appropriate servers.
Qualifications:
Ability to critically assess potential news stories and interviews ethically and efficiently.
Journalism training/experience and documentary production experience are assets.
Self-motivated and willing to initiate and complete projects.
Experience with audio editing software is an asset
Familiarity with website and social media platforms are assets.
Familiarity with issues of homelessness, poverty, and drug use are assets.
Compensation: Each assigned 20-30 minute audio piece will be compensated at the rate of 250$. A successful applicant can expect 1-3 assignments each month.
Closing date: The program starts immediately upon a successful application. We will be accepting applications for the entirety of the program.

Some Background:
We are asking that Sandra Morales, Daniel Roblero and their children be granted status under compassionate and humanitarian grounds
Both Sandra and Daniel are originally from Guatemala. They met in the US, after having fled persecution and violence in their home country. While their children are US citizens, Sandra and Daniel remained undocumented while living in the US. The family became increasingly fearful when Trump was elected in 2017, terrified that their kids would be taken away from them and the family would be separated. They decided to come to Canada, where Daniel has family.
In Canada, the family has access to important medical services (three children have medical conditions or disabilities) that they would not be able to access in Guatemala. The family is already suffering from separation after Daniel was deported.

Notes: As we continue on with bands that we have played with this is one of my favourites! Controller Controller was an amazing band both live and on their two (only) albums! In order to squeeze in 3 albums we went with their debut album “History” which is a hard hitting 7 songs – something not done much back then….too long and too much depth for an EP, but kinda short for a full length album. A lot of places now call this an EP.
