Didn’t have time to prepare an actual show this week, so rather than skip it I decided to live up to the show’s name and literally put (the highlights of) my library on shuffle, testing my knowledge of my own library on the fly. The results are definitely a little scuffed. But maybe charmingly so? I stand by enough of the tracks that showed up, anyway. Less so my chatter. Will hopefully be better with a slightly more curated library next time. I’d say more than half of these are tracks that I would put on an actual show.

Next tracks would’ve been Nine Inch Nails’ “Sanctified” and X’s “The World’s a Mess, It’s in My Kiss”. Those would’ve been good ones to play. Ah well.

Bit of a scuffed show. Kept hitting the wrong button to unmute the mic for some reason. Ah well. One of these days I’ll do a show where everything goes smoothly.

I’ve rallying cries, beautifully restrained singing, spooky dance music, deep cuts and classics. Aside from the music, I chat a little bit about the KW Symphony and recent movie releases.

Image is from Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, in theatres now. One song from here features in there (I won’t say which). Highly highly recommend seeing the movie while it’s still in theatres. A superficially Canadian movie I’ve ever seen, but it’s also a deeply and earnestly Canadian movie in how it’s filmed and funded. It plays fast and loose with copyright law and features footage that seems frankly impossible to have filmed. If you’ve never seen the show… Well, neither have I. See the movie anyway—it’s great.

I got LASIK last week! This is wizardry, man. My prescription wasn’t even that strong, but it’s still really bizarre to see like this without glasses after literal decades. Recovery is so fast, too; realistically, I could’ve done a show the day after if I wanted to.

I can wear sunglasses now. I mean I always could, but I could always deal enough that I just didn’t bother getting prescription sunglasses. Now I can just get whatever. Probably not this pair though.

This is my official first regularly scheduled show.  For the uninitiated, this is a show where I play music that emulates the experience of listening to my library on shuffle.

I’ve got 12 songs from 12 countries this time—had to do one where everything was from a different country, and why not get it out of my system right away? (I guess I’ll have to do a show with songs from all different decades at some point, too.) Unintentionally, I’ve got a lot of warm countries to contrast with this cold, cold week we’ve had. Hopefully I can warm you up a little. Hopefully I can warm myself up a little.

The picture is of Rubén González in Wim Wenders’ documentary Buena Vista Social Club, which I watched last night. Loved this scene of all these children excitedly gathering around him playing piano in  a sort of communal area. Music for the people.
