So Old It’s New

Classic rock album tracks (mostly 60s and 70s stuff-Beatles, Stones, Tull, Purple, Who, Zep, Cream, Pink Floyd, etc. etc.). Show theme: Old bands, old tracks, old bands, new tracks if they’re still releasing music. If you want to hear, say, Jumping Jack Flash by the Stones, you won’t. But if you want to hear something like Jigsaw Puzzle or Shine a Light by the Stones, this is the place to be. That’s what got me doing the show in the first place – my annoyance with hearing the same (albeit great) old tracks by these bands on commercial rock radio playlists when there is so much more to their respective catalogues. So I dig deeper into the grooves of the albums those of us who grew up on 60s and 70s rock grew up on. I throw in some blues on occasion and late 70s early 80s punk/new wave (early Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Graham Parker, Clash (generally London Calling to Combat Rock period), heck, Flash and the Pan, etc.). And I’m not averse to throwing in heavier fare like AC/DC, Judas Priest etc. But the foundation of the show is the blues-based rock of the 60s and 70s.

Mano A Mano

MANO A MANO (Tuesdays 8-10)

Pre-Battle
During the Pre-Mano Battle DJ Adrock and DJ Steel alternate songs to prime the listeners for the battle that ensues from 8:30 – 9:30.

The Mano A Mano Battle
Each battle DJ Steel and DJ AdRock choose 4 songs based upon a theme chosen specifically for that week. DJ Steel and DJ AdRock alternate their song selection throughout the battle. Once the show is over the listeners along with Mano A Mano’s expert listener can vote (at www.manoamanoradio.com or in the Sound FM chat) for which DJ had the superior music selection for the week. This head-to-head combat style of radio programming is sure to bring you superior song choices each week!

Feature Band
Each Week the Dj’s choose a feature band to play while the listeners are voting. These bands will range from local bands playing nearby shows to major label bands doing some new and interesting.

Post-Battle
Listeners can write in on the Sound FM Chat or call in on the Sound FM request line to request a song that they feel was over looked in the battle that fits with the weeks theme. Only songs that fit the theme will be played.

Submitting Music to SoundFM

What formats can be submitted to SoundFM for potential airplay?

We accept all CD and vinyl submissions (7″, 10″, 12″) for review and possible airplay. We still do not accept unsolicited MP3 or digital submissions though we are working on that.

What else should I include with my submission?

It is helpful to include a one-page biography to tell us about yourself with your submission. There is no need to throw in a poster or glossy picture, although we would love to have a picture of you on our wall! We accept submissions of all genres including spoken word pieces. Please make sure that the artist/band, album title and track listing are included in the liner notes, as well as a way to get in touch with the artist or representatives.

How do I submit my music to SoundFM?

Please send a copy of your music to our studio: -click here for the address-

What happens once I send you my submission?

Once our amazing mail carrier drops it off to the station, it is entered into our system and put on the ‘New Release’ wall in our main studio. Any one-pagers will be added to the new release binder in the same studio.

The CD will be available to our programmers for approximately 8 weeks, sometimes longer. If it has had positive reviews and plays it will be digitized and entered into our digital music library. The hard copy will remain in the community.

We do not return any CD to the sender regardless of addition to our digital or physical library. Once they have been submitted we consider them our property. All CD’s submitted for possible inclusion are treated this way.

Does SoundFM place CDs in rotation or on a playlist?

No, we are open-format. Our Programmers pick what songs they choose to air on their shows. If accepted, your CD will be placed with the other new releases that we have within the live booth. If selected for digitization, the CD will forever be a part of the SoundFM library. A tracking system is not actively sought, only digitized recordings are trackable if played in our broadcast software, CD’s that are not digitized are only on paper, and we do not regularly compile these paper records. if you want tracking information be sure to contact us before the date you want tracking to see if someone is willing to do the tracking for you. A sure way to determine tracking is to stay tuned online to the show you think may play you or contact them via their contact details at http://soundfm.ca/showhosts , and ask them personally. http://soundfm.ca/schedule

Why did my CD not get added to your permanent library?

There are many reasons why a CD would be passed upon. The most common is that it simply wasn’t played or commented on by any programmer. That’s not a comment on the quality of your music, it’s just that we get a lot (and we mean a lot!) of CDs every week, and we can’t sit down and listen to them all sadly enough.
You can always try to contact individual programmers to let them know about your music, but we can’t make any guarantees.

Artists who do not have CD’s to send in can use the contact at the bottom of the screen for potential airplay for non physical format recordings or press releases. Likewise, if you would like to perform live in studio or in concert with an interview. Finally, if you would like to donate materials for give aways or fund raising, or have a specific promos for contests or other activities, you can also directly contact the host you would like to work with.
